Govt to Auction Mitumba Bales, Sugar & Assorted Goods for Overstaying in Warehouses

Kenyan traders especially those in the Western region were on Friday given 29 days to collect items lying at different warehouses or risk having their property auctioned.

In a gazette notice, Brian Mwachiro, the Manager of Enforcement Border Control in Western Region informed all those with items at warehouses in Kisumu, Malaba, Busia and Isebania to collect the goods before the specified date, failure to which they would be disposed.

If the items are not collected by June 13, interested buyers will be allowed to view the items before the auction set to be held from June 17 to June 19.

"They will be treated as abandoned and will be sold by public auction as follows; Kisumu on June 17, June 18 and June 19, Malaba on June 17, June 18 and June 19, Busia on June 17, June 18 and June 19 and Isebania on June 17, June 18 and June 19," reads part of the notice.

All interested buyers can also view the various items on June 13 and June 14 during office hours.

Some of the items include; 17 bales of second-hand clothes, a wooden boat, 18,200 kilograms of sugar, motorcycles, baby clothes, timber and cosmetic products.

At the Kisumu warehouse, bidders have various items to choose from including; a wooden boat, 130 beer crates, 2 Suzuki engines, mannequins, utensils, ladies' shoes, 3-20 litres of unprocessed honey, gas cylinders, 6 motorcycles among other households items.

Those who will attend the auction at the Busia warehouse can choose, machinery equipment, timber, extruder machine or raw timber softwood.

Meanwhile, those in Isebania can purchase, 4 drones, a probox, 115 pieces of timber, 17 bales of second-hand clothes (mitumba), 18,200 kilograms of sugar, 13 cartons of energy drinks and a motorcycle.

On the other hand, bidders who will be at the Malaba warehouse can purchase, 615 pieces of plastic watering cans, and car spare parts such as aluminium frames, rims, bumpers, tyres, and engine blocks.

The price points for the items are yet to be disclosed but the goods shall be sold on an as-it-is basis to bidders who will follow and meet the set requirements.

Public auction is one-way government entities dispose of unclaimed or unserviceable items to clear public facilities
and also save taxpayers money.
