A graduate of the Technical University of Kenya has resorted to searching for a job using a rare means after sending several curriculum vitae (CV) to no avail.
Gilbert Mutai has been holding placards on the roadsides in Nairobi, informing employers of his credentials and interest in a job.
The 25-year old was on Thursday morning along Muthaiga Road where he held his placard for almost four hours inscribed with the words: "I have Bsc Electrical Engineering and Diploma in Project Management. Please help I need a job, CV with me 0722750068".
When contacted by Kenyans.co.ke, Mutai revealed that it was not his first day standing by the roadside saying that three days ago he camped along Denis Pritt road.
The youth, who resides in Kawangware, said that he was determined to get a job after he graduated in December 2015 following a five-year course.
Upon inquiring on the productivity of his strategy, Mutai said he had so far been approached by several strangers asking him to apply for jobs at various organisations.
He noted that at one point, a motorist pulled over when he was on Muthaiga road to exchange contacts with him.
“In fact, when I was standing in Muthaiga a driver stopped and gave me his details so that I could send him mine,” Mutai said.
Mutai's post was widely shared on social media with some questioning whether the Government had put up measures to ensure access to job opportunities.
Kenya's unemployment rate has been shooting up with research projecting that the crisis could reach 24-percent by 2020.
