Explosion at Times Tower

Employees were temporarily evacuated from Times Tower in Nairobi after two gas cylinders exploded on Wednesday morning.

Security personnel at the building confirmed that the cylinders exploded on the fourth floor, which housed a laboratory, causing a scare.

Employees are said to have panicked and ran out of the tower to seek safety, before it was determined that they could return to their offices. They, however, opted to use the stairs and avoided the lifts for fear of getting stuck on the way up.

The management at the building told Kenyans.co.ke, on phone, that the situation had been contained.

The building which also accomodates the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), is among the tallest in East and Central Africa and is located along Haile-Sellasie Avenue near the Kenya Central Bank.

Times Tower is also a few metres from Memorial park, the former US Embassy site bombed by terror group, Al Qaeda in 1998.
