Families to Sue County Govt Over Killer Vaccine

The families of nine infants who suffered the consequences of a mishandled measles vaccination in Kapetwa Health Centre, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, are set to sue the County Government for negligence.

Two children on Monday died, while the other seven were admitted at the hospital after a measles injection that was allegedly administered by a cleaner. The admitted seven were reportedly suffering from the side effects of the same vaccine.

The families together with other member of the community, sought the help of an Eldoret-based lawyer in order to seek justice from the courts.

The community representatives told the media that they would consult and seek compensation for the affected families.

“Given the economic status of the affected families, we have decided to hire a lawyer as a community and sue the Elgeyo-Marakwet County Government,” said Mr. Kipkosgei Yegon, a local resident.

The community is ready to prove that the health facilities in the region are “full of incompetent quacks.”

Director of Medical Services Nicholas Muraguri stated that they were yet to find out what exactly caused the deaths of the infants, as the cleaner remained in police custody for safety from the angry residents.
