Former CID Officer Killed in Broad Daylight

A former Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer was on Monday morning murdered in Lang'ata, Nairobi after a robbery operation that went wrong.

Moses Muchangi who was also a director at Rasasi Investment, a matatu SACCO in Nairobi, was attacked at 11.39am while carrying Sh2 Million from Otiende Shopping Centre.

A man who not armed reportedly assaulted Mr Muchangi while attempting to grab the bag of cash before the former officer hit the man to the ground.

The action prompted the attacker's accomplices who had been waiting in a getaway car, to shoot Mr Muchangi twice, on the right hip and on the cheek.

Despite being a licenced gun holder, Mr Muchangi had not carried his weapon with him during the attack.

The dramatic incident which was captured by CCTV cameras in a nearby building, sparked a quick reaction from the police who assigned a team of detectives headed by Nairobi County Criminal Investigations Officer Nicholas Kamwende.

"We still do not know the motive of the attackers, but initial investigations indicate that the armed men came to kill," said Lang'ata OCPD Elijah Mwangi.

Mr Muchangi who was previously part of the Police Dog Unit and later the Banking Fraud Investigations Department (BFID), died upon arrival at the Karen Hospital.

Detectives have identified the gang of five as criminals from Dandora who used a silver Toyota with registration number KBW 907H as a getaway vehicle.
