Former Special Crimes Prevention Head Dies

The former head of Special Crimes Prevention Unit Richard Katola has passed away.

Prior to his death, Katola had suffered stroke and was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital.

It was while receiving treatment at the hospital that he passed away Wednesday night.

The Standard reports that Katola had been sick for three years.

According to The Star, he was retired from the police service on grounds of his health in 2014.

The accoladed CID officer will be remembered for being among the detectives who participated in the Mungiki crack down between 2007 and 2012, as well as the hunt for convicted serial killer Philip Onyancha.

His body was taken to Chiromo mortuary, awaiting funeral arrangements.
