Francis Nyenze Claims Raila Tried to Add 2 More ODM MPs to NASA Coordinating Committee

A Wiper Member of Parliament and a member of the National Super Alliance (NASA) Coordinating Committee has exposed a trick which he claims ODM leader Raila Odinga tried to use to become the presidential flagbearer.

Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze disclosed that Odinga tried to add two more ODM representatives in the committee which would have been given him more numbers compared to his co-principals.

The 12-member Committee comprises of three representatives from ODM, Wiper, ANC and Ford Kenya and was tasked with leading negotiations in coming up with the Alliance's presidential candidate.

Nyenze disclosed that Odinga had tried to bring additional members allied to the Orange party who would have given him more support in the deliberations.

He nonetheless explained that the attempt to add Kajiado Central lawmaker Memusi Kanchori and Busia Woman Representative Florence Mutua to the Committee was rejected.

“It was actually three weeks ago but we said they cannot sit in the committee because each candidate has to have three representatives. Having two more would have given Raila an unfair advantage over others,” he revealed.

At the same time, the Minority Leader in the National Assembly maintained that Wiper would not take anything short of its boss, Kalonzo Musyoka, being chosen as NASA flagbearer.

He stated that it was time for the former Vice President to be the Opposition's candidate referring to a 2013 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which has since been dismissed by a section of the NASA leaders.

“Kalonzo will not be deputy to anybody because of the 2013 MoU. It will be difficult to convince the Kamba people that we are going for second place again,” he affirmed.

In the meantime, Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama has announced that NASA technical team has already selected the Presidential candidate.

Muthama who sits in the Coordinating Committee added that the selected leader would be revealed by Friday next week.
