Funeral Turns Chaotic as Leaders Opposing Siaya Governor are Kicked Out

A sad affair turned even sadder as leaders in Siaya County publicly fought at a funeral, forcing some of them to leave the ceremony.

The showdown against supporters and opposers of Siaya Governor was witnessed at the funeral of nominated Siaya MCA Angeline Odhiambo’s husband, Peter Odhiambo.

Drama started when former Alego-Usonga MP Sammy Weya and Nairobi businessman Edwin Ng’ong’a took to the podium accusing Governor Cornel Rasanga of corruption.

Their sentiments did not sit well with former civic leader John Ochido and some youth who confronted the two, Citizen Tv reports.

The two had to leave after the argument got heated.

After their departure, attending Members of County Assembly criticized their actions, condemning their lack of respect for the bereaved family.

It is not the first time a meeting between supporters of Rasanga and his opposers turned chaotic.

Late June, police officers had to shoot in the air and fire tear gas canisters in a meeting in Yala, Siaya County after youth allied to Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo disrupted a rally by Rasanga.

Rasanga had to be whisked away after the rowdy youth started throwing chairs at him and his entourage.

The two have been in a supremacy battle for the longest time, aggravated by the announcement by Midiwo that he will vie for the governor’s seat currently held by Rasanga in 2017.

The feud has split Siaya residents in the middle with several political meetings in the county turning violent when the two groups meet.
