MP's Supporters Throw Chairs At Governor in Siaya

Police officers had to shoot in the air and fire tear gas canisters in a meeting in Yala, Siaya County in an attempt to disperse crowds after a rally turned chaotic.

Trouble began when rowdy youth disrupted the rally by area governor Cornel Rasanga.

In what is becoming common in the area, the youth threw chairs and other objects at the governor as he took to the podium to address the crowd.

The youth are allegedly supporters of Gem Mp Jakoyo Midiwo who has been in a supremacy war with the governor following his announcement that he will vie for the governors seat come 2017.

The rivalry between the two has seen them exchange vicious words in the past over the management of the county affairs, The Nation reports.

According to Citizen Tv, the chaos at Nyayo grounds was a spillover of tensions that had started in the afternoon when Rasanga visited Mutumbu primary to donate iron sheets to renovate a classroom which had been destroyed by heavy rains when youths started fighting.

No one was injured or arrested during the fracas that saw the governor whisked away into his vehicle heavily guarded by his bodyguards.
