Gangsters Rob Sh4 Million from Naivas Supermarket at Mountain Mall along Thika Road

Panic gripped shoppers at Mountain Mall along Thika Road in Nairobi after two gunmen opened fire while conducting a robbery on Saturday.

The gangsters accosted officers and guards from Security Group Africa (SGA) who had gone to collect money from Naivas Supermarket to transport it to the bank.

During the 9pm incident, the gangsters are said to have confronted the officers at gunpoint and grabbed the cash  Sh4 Million that was in a box.

According to eye-witnesses, after grabbing the box, the robbers opened fire causing a scare that led to shoppers scampering for safety fearing it was a terror attack.

“This caused panic at the mall with some shoppers running out mistaking it for an attack. Police arrived and calmed down the situation,” said a witness.

Confirming the incident, Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome noted that the police officer and private security guard who were robbed of the money have been arrested.

According to Koome, the officer in custody claimed his gun jammed when he tried to fire at the escaping gang.

“They are assisting us with investigations into the robbery. The other crew were waiting in the car,” said Koome.

The arrests were made after a team of detectives arrived at the scene and reviewed a CCTV footage that captured moments before and after the incident.
