Gospel Artist Arrested Over Sh93 Million Scandal

A gospel singer has been linked to a Sh93 Million scandal in which, together with others, she is accused of swindling huge sums of money from the County Government of Kitui.

Faith Kithele (also the wife of Kitui Environment executive George Mulatya) alongside three other suspects are in custody at Kitui police station as CID cybercrime officers investigate the matter.

According to the County CID director Shem Nyamboki, the four are said to have obliviously handed their companies’ and businesses’ accounts to the main fraudsters through which money was channeled.

“The executive’s wife and two other people are connected to theft of Sh27.8 million, while one is connected to an earlier Sh65 million fraud. We have court orders to hold them as we investigate,” Nyamboki was quoted by the Star.

Nyamboki indicated that the four were crucial leads to the main thieves carrying out the fraudulent deals stating: “We want them to lead us to the real fraudsters. We are holding them but we have not yet decided whether or not to take them to court.”

Police suspect the case is matter of cybercrime and have asked for assistance from the Anti-Cyber Crime CID unit.

It is reported that a total of Sh93 Million was irregularly withdrawn from the County's recurrent account at the Central Bank since September last year.
