Government Finally Reaches Out to Tana River Residents

Residents of Tana River Delta now feel some sense of hope and security amid serious ethnic clashes in the area.

The locals who have lived in the dark cloud of being ignored by the government, now feel that the cloud is slowly shifting away.

This is after a government delegation which visited the volatile area saw satellite police post set up to beef up security. Residents are now even more hopeful of a new beginning as vehicles can access the area reassuring them that they are not forgotten.

Recent clashes between the Wardei and Giriama communities over grazing land led to the killing of 6 people.

Deputy Commissioner Tana Delta Mike Kimoko assured residents that all arrangements have been put in place to secure them and their property. Despite the efforts to secure the area, residents have set up camp in the police posts where they feel more secure.

Adan Wachu, the chairperson of the delegation however has urged residents to go back home as they will not allow Kenyans to be IDP's in their own country. He further promised that any help needed will be delivered to them.
