Government To Rescue Girls Trapped In Saudi Arabia

The government has finally heard the cries of 130 girls stuck in Saudi Arabia.

The girls' whose video was posted on social media by US-based Artist Nelson 'K-Nel' Muriuki drove Kenyans to launch an online campaign aimed at bringing the distressed girls back from captivity.

The hashtag #bringback130kenyangirls was started to help spring the government to action.

Many young girls have been lured to domestic jobs in Saudi Arabia by recruitment agencies which promise them lucrative returns.

This situation is said to have been fuelled by the high level of unemployment in Kenya.

The government however, had banned the recruitment agencies last year from sending Kenyans to the Middle East after many reported cases of torture and even deaths perpetrated by the foreign employers.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed said that the girls must have been in Saudi Arabia before the prohibitions were made.

She emphasised that the government is working together with Saudia Arabia to ensure that the matter is resolved as quickly as possible.
