Government Will Provide Job Placement for TVET Graduates - Matiang'i says

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has announced that the Government will help graduates in the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system in securing jobs.

Speaking during the launch of Equity Bank's Wings to Fly education sponsorship program, Dr Matiang’i observed that the assumption TVET programmes are less prestigious and of lower value than undergraduate courses was the country’s main challenge.

“Government will provide job placement & career guidance for TVET graduates,” the Education CS said.

Dr. Matiangi’ urged parents to shift focus and pay more attention to technological and science courses rather than arts and humanities.

“We will not progress when 80% of our students admitted to university are in the Arts & Humanities. It is upon us to tell parents to enrol their children in TVET institutions,” the CS stated.

The no-nonsense CS divulged that students were being trained for jobs that didn’t exist in the market, adding that it was time children were advised to focus on courses that transformed the country.

Dr Matiang’i also divulged that TVET training will be the main point of focus in the new proposed curriculum.

The CS concluded by stating that the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) will be giving more money to science students than to those pursuing arts and humanities.
