Governor to be Sued Over Sexual Harassment

Members of Nyeri County Assembly have threatened to sue Governor Nderitu Gachagua over sexual harassment.

The female Ward-Representatives allege that Mr Gachagua hired goons who beat them, grabbed their breasts and behinds forcing them to leave Kabaru grounds in Kieni-East on Monday.

Nominated MCA and Nyeri TNA coordinator Regina Macharia, who was among those attacked accused the Governor of evicting them out of a meeting they were supposed to attend.

“For a long time we have been used as doormats but now we have realised the Governor doesn’t need us anymore. We are going to take legal action against anyone who sexually abused and humiliated us,” Ms Macharia stated.

Another nominated MCA, Elizabeth Wangui, condemned Mr Gachagua for the means he reportedly employed in ejecting them out of the venue.

The MCAs together with Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (Kewopa) also asked the Inspector of Police Joseph Boinnet to arrest the police who were at the scene.

30 lawmakers were Monday physically attacked during a meeting which Mr Gachagua was to address.

The Governor condemned the MCAs for attempting to disrupt his meeting, warning them that they would not dictate how he should run his government.
