Health Crisis Deepens as Doctors Sent Home

16 doctors found themselves on the receiving end of what has been termed as absconding duty.

The doctors from Nakuru County, were part of the team that went on strike for a week, protesting delayed salaries and due promotions.

The medics, who had been on probation, were suspended for allegedly failing to go back to work, even after a return to work agreement was reached between them and the County government.

Prior to the suspension, an internal memo from the County Chief Health Officer Samuel Mwaura addressing medical officers, pharmacists and dental officers had been circulated, directing them to report to work by August 17.

The latest suspensions add to the series of problems ailing the county's health sector.

Since the strike by medics started last week, 11 people have been reported dead.

Reports indicate that the County government is conducting investigations into the possibility that one of its top officers was involved in the incitement that led to the strike.
