Hezron Awiti and Hassan Omar Supporters Clash in Mombasa

Drama erupted in a Mombasa hotel during a meeting convened by a section of Wiper party leaders on Monday morning.

The leaders allied to area Senator Hassan Omar are said to have converged for a meeting to discuss nomination matters and the choosing of the party's gubernatorial aspirant.

However, supporters of Nyali Member of Parliament (MP) Hezron Awiti arrived at the venue claiming that the meeting belonged to all Wiper delegates hence they ought to have been invited.

A clash ensued after Awiti's group was reportedly blocked from accessing the meeting leading to a confrontation.

“If this meeting was for Wiper aspirants then why were we not invited? If it was a private function then you should have branded it as such. I thought politics is public and politicians are public figures,” stated one of Awiti's supporters.

The group questioned why the Senator's faction was holding a private meeting arguing that the party belonged to all members hence all aspirants should work together.

Awiti and Omar have been locked in a debate on who between them will fly Wiper's gubernatorial ticket as they both seek to unseat incumbent Governor Hassan Joho.

Last week, their teams are said to have engaged in a two-day meeting presided over by party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, to unlock the deadlock but failed to come to an agreement.
