A young man from Baringo County lost his life at the very place he had been earning his daily bread- Cheploch Gorge.
Cheploch Gorge in Ainabmoi -a major tourist attraction- three-meter crack in hard rock whose depth is still a subject of research.
Some of the residents estimate the depth to be at 70 feet.
Youth from the area, however, have taken up to showcasing their driving prowess, plunging into the scary depths of Kerio River below, at a fee.
Many tourists, both local and international who visit the site, hardly pass up the opportunity to see the young daredevils dive.
The activity has become a way for young people looking to make an extra coin legitimately.
Most were confident that it was a harmless and entertaining way to make money-until one of their own lost his life.
Alfred Kiptoo, a university student on holiday, was "working" along his friends at the gorge.
They were diving in turns, with absolutely no idea that it was the last time they would see their friend again.
When Kiptoo dived, he never resurfaced.
The youth at the gorge would recover the body of their colleague and friend, afte two days of search.
Locals in the area have appealed to the government to formalize the use of the tourist site and provide training for the young men, to avert a repeat of the unfortunate incident.
In the mean time, burial preparations for Kiptoo are underway.
