A police officer has been arrested after fatally shooting two boda boda operators in a bizarre case of road rage.

The Sunday morning incident saw two riders lose their lives after attempting to confront the officer who was involved in an accident moments earlier.

According to witnesses, the officer, who was driving an Audi, rear-ended a motorbike which had a pillion passenger.

The driver reportedly attempted to drive away but eventually stopped after getting caught in minor traffic, allowing other boda boda operators to catch up with him.

From the ensuing confrontation, other boda boda operators joined in, demanding justice for their colleague.

Moments later, the police officer allegedly brandished his firearm and shot at the operators, killing them.

"The rider was hit from the back by a car. The other riders came and confronted the driver, and that is when he brandished a gun. He shot the other riders not involved in the accident," one witness said.

Another witness claimed the accident was fairly minor, since both the boda boda operator and his passenger escaped with minor injuries.

In the wake of the incident, other irate boda boda operators, in a retaliatory move, descended on the officer's vehicle, torching it beyond recognition.

Images and videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed the vehicle parked beside the road, surrounded by dozens of civilians who watched it as it was reduced to ashes.

Notably, this was the second incident involving boda boda operators torching a vehicle, coming just days after a Super Metro PSV was reduced to ashes along Thika Road.

The bus, according to reports, was torched by riders after it knocked down another operator, killing him on the spot.
