How Kenya Will Benefit From Uhuru Kenyatta's Visit to Italy

President Uhuru Kenyatta's visit to Rome, Italy, has seen Kenya reap a set of benefits from the Italian Government.

After Uhuru's meeting with Italy's Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, the Italian Government offered to extend and expand its debt swap program by injecting Sh4.2 Billion into key socio-economic projects in Kenya. The funds will finance projects in health, education, water and sanitation in high poverty density regions in the country.

Prime Minister Renzi also offered Italy’s support to Kenya’s war against terrorism through the training of Kenya police officers in counter-terrorism.

Italy further pledged to give Kenya equipment for border control and surveillance as Kenya and Italy step up information gathering and sharing.

The two leaders also discussed joint co-operation in agricultural production to safeguard Kenya’s food security.

The Italian Government indicated its interest to support developments of the Small Medium Enterprises sector in Kenya through financing. Italian Exim Bank is set to be established in Kenya to assist with financing of the SME's programs.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed, described the visit to Italy as a success.
