Why President Uhuru Kenyatta is in Rome, Italy

President Uhuru Kenyatta is in Rome, Italy, for an official visit where he is set to meet Italy's President and Prime Minister.

According to a statement from State House, Kenyatta is in Italy to promote Kenya’s cultural and business opportunities.

During the visit, the President will also launch Kenya’s new international brand at the Expo Milan 2015 in the City of Milan – Italy’s financial and fashion hub.

He is set to hold separate talks with Italy's Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and President Sergio Mattarella at their official residences.

Kenyatta's visit to Italy follows a similar visit to Kenya by the Italian Prime Minister in July, which witnessed the signing of a Sh34 Billion financing agreement between the Kenyan Government and Italy’s BNP Paribas as well as Intesa San Paolo banks, for the construction of Itare Dam in Kuresoi.

The signing of the agreement at the State House, Nairobi, was preceded by bilateral talks where President Kenyatta and PM Renzi agreed to strengthen cooperation between Kenya and Italy in security, especially in the fight against terrorism.

The plane carrying President Kenyatta and his delegation touched down at Ciampino G.B. Pastine International Airport in Rome shortly before 1am.
