How USIU Student was Kidnapped by Fraudsters on Facebook

A female student at the United States International University (USIU) in Nairobi was last week kidnapped after unfortunately falling victim to fraudsters disguising themselves as businessmen on Facebook.

According to reports, the student identified as Christine Chepkurui Rono was duped into believing that the presumed businessmen would help boost her start-up business.

After Ms Rono responded to a Facebook message advertising business support, the kidnappers offered to pick her up at Imara Daima for them to discuss and agree on the deal which would supposedly see her business rise to greater heights.

The abductors sent a taxi which picked the 27-year-old at Imara Daima and unbeknown to her, she had landed in the hands of kidnappers.

“The kidnappers sent a taxi to pick her from Imara Daima to a place they were to meet but later turned against her," police were quoted by the Star.

Luckily, police were able to trace the suspected criminals, who had been asking for a whopping Sh10 Million for the release of Rono, in Githurai, Kizito area.

The kidnappers will be arraigned in court on Monday.

Fraudsters have in the recent past resorted to using social media platforms as avenues of stealing from the public, with others going ahead to use parody accounts of prominent politicians.

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko's name has severally been used in the dubious deals to con unsuspecting Kenyans.

However, the Senator has consistently warned the public to be wary of the malicious schemes.
