I Will Accept Defeat If I Lose 2017 Election – Uhuru Responds

President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured Kenyans that he will smoothly hand over power if he loses the August 8, 2017, elections.

While addressing journalists at Sagana Lodge, Nyeri on Sunday, President Kenyatta was asked whether if defeated, he would accept the outcome or will refuse to step down like what happened in Gambia.

In response, Kenyatta said: "I will respect the decision of Kenyans after August 8, General Election. The rule of law and the will of Kenyans must reign supreme at all times”.

The Head of State, however, exuded confidence that he will win the upcoming polls citing his development record since ascending to power in 2013.

Gambia's former President had declined to accept defeat throwing the country into political turmoil.

He was, however, pressurised by other Western-Africa nations compelling him to leave office before flying to exile in Equatorial Guinea

President Kenyatta, who will be seeking a second term in office, has been on a Voter Registration Drive exercise since last week urging his supporters to turn out and register in large numbers.
