The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has disclosed a category of Kenyans who are invalid to vote in the upcoming General Election due to the timing of registration.
In a press statement, the electoral body stated that those who registered during the 2010 referendum should register afresh in order to vote in the August 8 poll.
"Please note that the only other registration that happened before the 2012 registration is the one conducted in preparation for the 2010 referendum. That registration is no longer valid," IEBC communications director, Andrew Limo said.
The Commission issued the statement following social media messages which indicated that any person who registered before November 2012 must register afresh.
IEBC highlighted that it was targeting "those who did not register in the fresh registration conducted from November 19 to December 18, 2012".
It added that it was also focused on registering "those who turned 18 years and obtained ID cards after December 18, 2012, and have not registered as voters yet".
