IEBC's BVR Kits Stolen After Suspected Al Shabaab Militants Attack AP Post in Arabia, Mandera

An Administration Police (AP) camp was on Thursday morning attacked by suspected Al Shabaab militants in Arabia, Mandera.

The armed men reportedly made away with Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits, a police land cruiser and three guns during the morning raid.

The terrorists also destroyed a communication mast in the area hindering other officers on the ground from assessing the damage.

Confirming the incident, Lafey Deputy County Commissioner Eric Oronyi stated: "Communication has been cut off and we cannot confirm the exact damage but things are not good."

"We have lost no officer but one student was hit by a stray bullet during the incident from their family house," Oronyi said.

"Preliminary information is showing they destroyed a Safaricom mast before attacking the AP camp and made away with a Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to police, The police officers took cover and the attackers made away with their personal belongings including clothes and other things the officers left behind," he added.

According to reports, the attackers, who allegedly crossed from Somalia, struck at around 1.25 am.

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers have been sent to the area to reinforce security.
