International Survey Reveals Most Corrupt Kenyans

People aged below 55 years are more likely to pay bribes for public services than those above 55 years-old, a new survey has revealed.

According to the report by Transparency International and AfroBarometer, conducted in 28 countries across Africa, Kenya ranked ninth among the most corrupt countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The survey titled: PEOPLE AND CORRUPTION: AFRICA SURVEY 2015, showed that in Kenya Public Service users were highly corrupt and most likely to hand out bribes.

It was further revealed that most bribes were channeled to the Police, Courts and institutions involved in the issuance of permits, IDs and voter's cards.

The report indicated that 57 per cent of bribe payers were male compared to their female counterparts who accounted for 43 per cent.

Poor people were discovered to be twice likely to pay bribes compared to the rich, while those living in urban cities were more likely to hand out bribes compared to rural residents.

The survey, which also pointed out that 70 per cent of the citizenry felt that the Government was doing badly in its fight against corruption, comes at a time when Kenya is grappling with graft in the Government departments.
