Italian billionaire businessman Mario Mele who was arrested last week on drug-related charges in Malindi has reportedly vanished from a Mombasa Police cell.
The Lawyer of the suspect, John Khaminwa, has expressed fears that Mr Melo might have been smuggled out of Kenya silently.
Mr Khaminwa stated that his client had been missing from the Nyali Police Cell since the weekend.
However, Nyali Deputy OCPD Walter Abondo refused to address the issue when contacted by the media.
On Monday, Khaminwa filed an application for the police to state the whereabout of his client after he disappeared from his cell on Saturday.
The lawyer now fears that State officials might have gone against a court order barring the deportation of Mele to Italy where he was facing criminal chargers.
