Jack Ranguma Stopped by Kisumu Youth, Told to Produce His Voter's Card

Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma was on Tuesday caught up in a road barricade in his own county where youth were demanding to see a voter's card before one could freely pass.

The campaign dubbed No vote Id No Accessing Nyalenda forced Mr Ranguma out of his vehicle to plead with the youth.

The young men took the opportunity to extort money from the Governor in order to allow his convoy pass the illegal roadblock at Kachok.

Speaking at the scene, Mr Ranguma congratulated the youth for being proactive citizens and encouraging voter registration.

"I am very very impressed by the people of Nyalenda those who have taken upon themselves to ensure everybody has an ID and a registration card," Ranguma said.

The youth had blockaded every major entry route in the County to coerce motorists to produce their voter registration details.

Politicians including President Uhuru Kenyatta and CORD leader Raila Odinga have been on the ground mobilising the electorate to register in the ongoing mass voter registration exercise, which is the second and last phase.
