Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University on Tuesday published an apology to Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on a national newspaper.
The apology captured on the Daily Nation was made after the Varsity confused the title of Dr Matiang'i during the unveiling of the University's 2016-21 Strategic Plan on December 16th, 2016.
Instead of referring to Matiang'i by his title PhD E.G.H (Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart), the Varsity used a lower title - PhD E.B.S (Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear).
According to the ranking of the Presidential honours, Order of the Burning Spear is the highest in Kenya and in that category, Matiang'i's EGH comes in second.
The Varsity stated: “We erroneously captured the title of Cabinet Secretary of Education Dr. Frd Matiang'i as PhD, EBS instead of Dr Fred Matinag'i PhD, EGH. We sincerely apologise for this mix-up".
