Joho Questioned at Coast Regional Police Headquarters in Mombasa

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho was on Wednesday interrogated for close to two hours at the Coast Regional Police Headquarters over allegations of forging his KCSE certificate.

Joho arrived at the headquarters shortly after 10am accompanied by six lawyers led by Siaya Senator James Orengo.

The questioning is said to have been conducted by a team of DCI sleuths sent from Nairobi headquarters led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Samuel Nyambengi.

According to sources privy to the investigations, the detectives took a sample of Joho's handwriting and signature which are to be matched with a document the Governor is said to have used to gain admission into the University of Nairobi.

Joho was required to explain whether he was linked to a result slip showing that he graduated from Serani Secondary school with a grade of C+ in 1992.

The source quoted by the Standard also revealed that the detectives questioned Joho concerning the documents he presented for him to be cleared during the 2013 General Election with an intent of knowing whether he used the contested 1992 document.

Additional reports indicate that he didn't write a formal statement and the session ended after the samples were collected by forgery experts.

Speaking after leaving the Station, the ODM deputy leader accused the government of perpetuating witch-hunt against him.

He added that they would hold a rally at Kibra, Nairobi, on Thursday in order to tell the Jubilee Government "the truth".
