Joho to Record Statement at Coast Regional Headquarters

Security has been beefed up around the Coast Regional Police headquarters where Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is expected to record a statement on Wednesday morning.

Heavily armed police officers were stationed outside the police base while others mounted road blocks before and after the headquarters ready to deal with any eventuality.

More officers are also said to have been deployed in Joho's strongholds to prevent any supporters from making their way to the police station.

Reports indicated that journalists who had arrived at the Station were ordered to move away from the Station gate as the officers prepared for Joho's arrival.

The Governor is expected to present himself for questioning by Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) sleuths over allegations of forging his KCSE result slip.

He had been summoned by the authorities to appear at the headquarters on Tuesday but maintained that he would only be available on Wednesday.

Joho's troubles began after the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), through its acting CEO, claimed that he did not possess a genuine academic document.

The ODM deputy leader, however, dismissed the allegations indicating that he was ready to respond to any questions the authorities would raise.

He accused the Jubilee government of perpetuating witch-hunt against him adding that some individuals were focused on blocking him from defending his seat in the August 8 General Election.
