Joseph Boinnet Orders Investigation Over Allegations of Extrajudicial Killings in Eastleigh

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has ordered for investigations to be conducted into the incident where two people said to be police officers were caught on camera shooting unarmed youth in Eastleigh estate, Nairobi.

A video circulating on social media showed an unidentified man spraying bullets on a youth sparking allegations of extrajudicial killings.

In the clip shot from a balcony, a youth is seen lying in a pool of blood on the street while another is confronted by three men, two of them holding pistols.

The young man appears to be pleading with the officers as a huge crowd gathered around the scene looks on.

One of the police officers then shoots the young man five times at close range. The officer then walks away, reloads his firearm, comes back and fires more shots at the victim lying on the ground.

The undated video elicited mixed reactions with some condemning the act while others praised the officer for a ‘’job well done”.

Nairobi County Police Commander Japheth Koome said the suspects were wanted for killing two police officers from Kayole and Soweto in March.

“I buried a corporal from Kayole yesterday. The same gangsters shot dead another officer yesterday,” the Commander stated.

Mr Koome vowed to act ruthlessly on all armed criminals who dared to kill police officers.
