The Jubilee Party has instructed presiding officers in Nairobi County to allow only members registered with the IEBC to vote in the ongoing nominations.
Elections Board Chairman Andrew Musangi stated that the party had received intelligence reports indicating that members of other parties planned to infiltrate the process in a bid to interfere with the outcome.
"Credible intelligence has emerged, and we were constantly monitoring this even yesterday, that there were particularly concerted efforts to infiltrate the Jubilee Party voting in Nairobi. Ultimately, our aim was not to deny any voter the chance to vote and we even resorted to ultimately checking their identification of the voter with a view to seeing what location they come from and thereafter allowing them to vote,” Mr Musangi pointed out.
He asserted that the move would ensure the true will of the voters would be reflected in the results.
The new order was issued a day after the same party announced that voters would be allowed to participate in the primaries provided they had a national identity card.
Voters in other counties will, however, be allowed to vote only using their identity cards despite their names missing in the IEBC register,
Jubilee nominations in Nairobi kicked off on Wednesday morning with the most anticipated showdown being between gubernatorial aspirants, Senator Mike Sonko and former Gatundu Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kenneth.
This contest will also feature former Starehe lawmaker Margaret Wanjiru.
