Members of Parliament affiliated to the Jubilee coalition have opposed President Uhuru Kenyatta's proposed amendments to the pensions Bill.
The Jubilee MPs reportedly turned the heat on President Kenyatta and his advisors over what they said was an illegal push to kick the Cord Principals out of politics as a condition for them to get their pension.
In a heated debate the Jubilee legislators joined their opposition colleagues to tell off majority leader Aden Duale for the illegal clause contained in President Kenyatta's memo.
The National Alliance (TNA), chairman Johnstone Sakaja blamed the advisors of the President at State House for what he said was a "petty and unconstitutional proposal".
Kabando wa Kabando (Mukurweini), Mithika Linturi (IgembeSouth) and Ronald Tonui (Bomet Central) joined Sakaja in hitting back at their coalition leader.
According to a Nation report Linturi termed the proposal as mischievous with his Mukurweini counterpart calling for a need to borrow from the global acceptable practice, adding that the proposal creates a bad image of the party leader.
Bomet Central legislator Tonui said the recommendations would amount to discrimination as there are members in the assembly who are also receiving pensions from the civil service.
However their rejection of the memo failed due to lack numbers.
The House needed 233 MPs to reject the President's proposal, but there were hardly 100 lawmakers in the House, The Standard reports.
Opposition MPs Millie Odhiambo (Mbita), Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), Marcus Muluvi (Kitui East) and the sponsor of the Bill John Mbadi (Suba) said the President was simply slighting his competition.
This comes as a second incident in a week where Jubilee Mps have stood up against their party leader, after they joined their opposition counterparts in rejecting Monica Juma as the appointee for Secretary to the Cabinet.
