Jubilee Party Announces It Will Field a Candidate Against Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party officials on Thursday made a surprise move after they announced they would field a candidate to challenge Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.

President Kenyatta’s regional coordinator for the Ukambani region, Victor Munyaka announced that although Mutua has announced his intention to support their candidate, they would field their own candidates for all other positions.

“We have resolved that there is no way we are going to shelve our ambition for a particular position in favour of any other party," Munyaka, who is also the Machakos Town MP announced.

The legislator, however, stated that they were yet to identify which candidate would carry the Jubilee ticket in the race to replace Mutua in the August 8 election.

“If Chap Chap or even Wiper chooses to support the re-election of the President, that is welcome but they should understand that we are free to field candidates for all other positions, just like they are,” Munyaka stated.

He further advised Governor Mutua to dissolve his party if he wished to get the support of the ruling party.

The Machakos Governor, who is expected to defend his seat on his Maendeleo Chap Chap Party ticket, has already declared that his party will not support any candidate but would instead support Kenyatta’s re-election.
