Jubilee Party Aspirants in Kisii and Nyamira Urged to Seek Consensus Ahead of Party Nominations

Aspirants seeking elective seats in Kisii and Nyamira Counties under the Jubilee party banner may skip the nomination exercise after the party agreed that consensus was also an alternative to pursuing elections.

According to Jubilee National Elections Board member Samuel Nyangeso, Jubilee has urged aspirants to seek consensus and agree on who is best suited to carry the flag for the party in the region.

Nyangeso added that consensus-building was underway, with frantic attempts to dissuade some aspirants from pulling out or to instead run on tickets of Jubilee affiliate parties.

He argued that consensus would ensure that the aspirants remain united pre and post-nomination as they campaign for Jubilee and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election.

The move was supported by Nyamira Senate aspirant Hellen Makone who said that she was in talks with the East Africa Legislative Assembly MP Joseph Kiangoi and Timothy Rioba to have one of them get a direct nomination.

“Discussions are ongoing. If we agree, we shall definitely communicate to you,” said Makone.

The party has also reportedly told aspirants that those who step out were promised state appointments and nominations.

Nyamira and Kisii Jubilee nominations will both be held on the 25th of April 2017.
