Kabogo Declares Support for Ruto in 2022 Election

Deputy President William Ruto has received a major boost following announcements by Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and other Mt Kenya leaders.

Speaking during a meeting at Ruto's home in Sugoi in Eldoret, Kabogo declared that the leaders would back the DP's presidential bid in the 2022 election.

Kabogo led the group comprising of MPs, MCAs and other aspirants in affirming their support for Ruto, despite having previously uttered contrary remarks.

“2022 election will be a walkover. It’s clear in our minds we’ll vote for you because of your steadfast support to the President. Don’t be worried over that. We will stand with you,” he said.

According to the governor, the DP was instrumental in uniting the Central and Rift Valley region, therefore, they would remain united until 2022.

Addressing the same meeting, Nairobi Women Rep Rachael Shebesh assured that President Uhuru Kenyatta would candidly back Ruto after the end of his tenure.

She further claimed that Kenyatta would actually work as the DP's chief campaigner to ensure that he clinches the seat.

“President Kenyatta himself, with our support, will campaign to ensure Ruto is elected because it’s Ruto who worked hard to have Jubilee win in 2013,” she asserted

Last year, Kabogo caused a storm after telling Ruto not to be assured of support from the Kikuyu community as he seeks to succeed President Kenyatta.

The statement was heavily criticised by leaders from Ruto's backyard forcing Kabogo to withdraw the statement and assure the DP of his support.
