Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has theorised a ploy by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to bring down the National Super Alliance (NASA) and eventually join Jubilee.
According to Prof. Ngunyi, Mr Musyoka is set to abandon NASA on claims of rigging in the presidential nomination and in turn run for the top job on a Wiper ticket.
Mr Ngunyi hypothesises that Kalonzo's fall out would be well orchestrated with a motive to deny NASA the Kamba vote and not necessarily to be President.
Ngunyi opines that after Kalonzo's defeat and win of President Uhuru Kenyatta, he would be awarded a high post in the Jubilee Government just like in 2007 when he was in the State House race and ended up getting the Vice President's job.
"The Kalonzo scheme, therefore, is very simple; abandon NASA, accuse Orengo of rigging Raila in as NASA candidate then run as president under Wiper with an intention of denying NASA the Kamba vote.
"And as a result, NASA loses the election and like in 2007 Kalonzo is rewarded with a big job but this time around not as a Vice President but as Prime Minister in Jubilee. Either way, he wins," Ngunyi says.
This time around, the political scientist highlights that Kalonzo would push for the Prime Minister position in the Jubilee Government, unlike his previous position during the Kibaki-era.
"Kalonzo will bolt out of NASA in my view. The issue is not if he will but when he will. And like Raila he will do so to recreate the 2007 magic. In that election, he ran as president, lost and got awarded the job of Vice President. His gamble paid off and if it worked then, why not repeat it this year?" the political analyst posed.
Ngunyi's analysis comes days after he expressed fears that the seven-member NASA committee formed to spearhead the nomination in the Alliance, would automatically favour CORD leader Raila Odinga.
In his poll, which Odinga got the highest number of votes, Ngunyi noted that: "Because ORENGO is the leader of the NASA Technical Team, RAILA will be made AUTOMATIC CANDIDATE. Who is your preferred candidate? #NasaUnity."
