Kenya African National Union (KANU) officials have threatened to remove Secretary General Nick Salat from office for claiming the party had joined the National Super Alliance (NASA).
The officials from Nakuru branch faulted Salat for attending the Wednesday event at the Bomas of Kenya where CORD leader Raila Odinga led the Opposition into pledging support for the Alliance.
According to the delegates, the Secretary-General declared that KANU was part of the yet to be unveiled NASA, which was not the official position of the Party.
They further maintained that Salat attended the Bomas conference in a personal capacity but not as their representative.
The team has now given the embattled Secretary a seven-day ultimatum to respond to the matter failure to which they will rally other officials to eject him from office.
“We wish to give our Secretary-General seven days’ notice to respond to whether the decision was personal or collective,” they declared.
They noted that Salat had infringed on the Party's constitution by acting without the approval of KANU's National Delegates Conference.
When speaking at Bomas, the former Bomet MP affirmed that KANU was part of NASA calling on its supporters to unite with other Opposition leaders to beat the Jubilee administration.
The declaration was on the same evening refuted by among others West Pokot Senator John Lonyangapuo and his nominated counterpart Zipporah Kittony.
