KEBS Officials Raid Chinese Supermarket

The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) on Wednesday stormed a Chinese Supermarket that was under its radar.

The supermarket alleged to be selling sub-standard products was packed with Chinese labeled commodities some of which were already expired.

According to the KEBS Surveillance Officer Gabriel Waiganjo, regulations require products to be labeled in a language that the target market understands.

The raid which was led by the Surveillance Officer was not received kindly by the management as they refused to make any statements when they were questioned.

Mr Waiganjo stated that they were out to hunt down anybody who was selling sub-standard goods in the market.

This comes months after a controversial Chinese Restaurant in Nairobi was indefinitely closed by the County Government, after complaints of racist restrictions and the fact that the restaurant sold dog meat.

Unlike in China, the Kenyan society is not encultured to feeding on dogs.
