Kenya to Receive Nearly Sh14 Billion Funding From The US

The United States has pledged $145 million (Sh14 billion) funding to support Kenya in the fight against Al-Shabaab militants and aid to refugees.

US Secretary of State John Kerry Monday announced that $100 million (Sh9.5 billion) of the money will be used in the fight against terrorism following a spate of attacks which have claimed hundreds of lives in Kenya.

$45 million (Sh4.3 billion) on the other hand comes as additional funding to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to provide better school, health clinics and clean drinking water to the 600,000 refugees living in Kenya.

The move comes amid calls on the Kenyan government, by the US to reconsider closing down the refugee camp at dadaab.

Kerry leaves the country later today for Djibouti.
