Kenyans on social media on Wednesday took to Twitter to discuss some of the hottest topics including several announcements made by the IEBC.

The topic emerged after a section of online users revived an ongoing saga where a US businessman has accused Opposition chief Raila Odinga and other leaders of trying to extort money from him.

Most of those who commented under the hashtag accused Odinga of being part of the problems facing the country despite him constantly criticising the government.

Eric Omondi

Comedian Eric Omondi was among the top trends after his video was shared while appearing and performing on popular American superstar Jimmy Fallon's show.

A majority of netizens expressed delight that he had been featured on the big comedy stage congratulating him for the achievement.

Hundreds of heavily armed security officers were on Wednesday dispatched to Baringo county to flush out bandits and seize illegal firearms from assailants who have been launching attacks in the area.

The topic was trending after Eastleigh traders vowed to close down their businesses on Thursday to protest against the return of hawkers in estate streets who they accused of interfering with their businesses.

#SecuringElections2017

The IEBC on Friday morning held a joint session with several agencies to address various issues its preparedness for the August 8 General Election.

The electoral body led by Chairman Wafula Chebukati sought to assure the country that the Commission was ready to credibly conduct the upcoming polls following fears raised by the Opposition.

Addressing the forum, Chebukati announced that the body would publish names of all returning officers and reshuffle staff involved in the recently concluded voter registration.

This, according to the Chairman, would help reduce the agent's familiarity with aspirants as a measure of securing the polls.

This fueled the trend as the public expressed their delight with the measure and additionally added their voice on among others, measures the Commission should take to ensure free and fair elections.

The EACC was trending after former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana appeared before the Commission for grilling after being linked to a Sh51 Million scandal in Kilifi county.

#SupplemetaryBudget

This was among the top trends following an announcement that the National Assembly had approved a Sh61 Billion supplementary budget to fund government expenditure for the financial year ending June 2017.
