The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) was on Wednesday put on the spot by Kenyans after officers deployed to capture a stray lion shot it dead.
A section of the public was angered by the killing of the lion along Kajiado-Isinya road, questioning why KWS officers did not use tranquilizers to sedate the animal.
The act of killing the lion after it injured a boda-boda operator was seen by some people as a terrible move that would injure the country's tourism sector.
Others indicated that KWS had sent out a wrong message to the public and their action would encourage killing of wildlife in the country.
However, according to reports, KWS resorted to shooting the lion owing to the serious injuries it had caused to the boda-boda rider.
KWS stated that it did not have a choice but to kill the wild animal, after locals cornered it prompting the lion to detect danger.
At the same time, other Kenyans supported the move remarking that human life was more important.
The incident which comes days after another lion was spotted along Mombasa Road has had many questioning why lions escaping from the Park.

Incompetent @kwskenya rangers> Why kill a lion when it is easier to immobilise it? Lions are an endangered species!

Why kill it, sedate it and return it to the wild. What was the man doing in Lion's home? https://t.co/nbc5jr68sa

What is really happening at KWS? Why are lions roaming all over, endangering peoples and their own lives? Can someone take responsibility?
