VIDEO: KWS Explains Why Lions are Escaping Nairobi Park

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has stated that encroachment into the National Park by residentials and industries has largely led to the rampant cases of lions sneaking from the Nairobi National Park into the neighbouring areas.

According to a KWS official, human invasion into the game parks had rendered it impossible for the wild animals to move freely.

The KWS indicated that the national park is seemingly enclosed leaving no free movement, hence leading to conflict between humans and the animals.

“The park appears to be closed in because it is surrounded by settlements on all sides. On the Eastern side we have the Mombasa highway and all the industrial area facilities upto Mlolongo. To the Northern side we have settlements from Olesereni all the way to Carnivore, those are human settlements,” KWS officer told NTV.

The KWS further noted that the wildebeests that used to migrate to the reserve had stopped as the pathway through which they used to access the game-park had been obstructed by human settlements.

“As from 2002 Nairobi National Park has not been visited by any wildebeest because their access has been blocked,” KWS officer stated.

On Friday morning, a lion on the loose attacked a man along Mombasa road near the City Cabanas footbridge sending fears among City dwellers.
