Kenya's Trending Topics on Tuesday 24th January 2017

Kenyans on Twitter on Tuesday engaged on a number of conversations relating to political, economical, and social events.

Here are the trending topics:

1. #UhuruTenainGarissa

This trend went viral after President Uhuru Kenyatta accompanied Garissa Town MP Aden Duale, who is Majority Leader in the National Assembly, for a mass voter registration campaign in the North-Eastern region.

At some point, a twitter user posted a false video that had been edited to depict the President being heckled at a roadside stop in Garissa town.

Kenyans.co.ke was, however, able to verify that the said video was recorded in Isiolo when the President toured the area.

During Isiolo visit, area Governor Godana Doyo was forced to cut short his speech as angry residents shouted him down

Apart from updates on the President’s visits, users debated on the Jubilee government’s legacy in the North Eastern region.

2. Uganda and Ethiopia

Uganda and Ethiopia became the subjects of online conversation after ODM leader Raila Odinga claimed that the National Intelligence Service (NIS) was fraudulently registering voters in the two countries, with the aim of rigging the upcoming August 8 elections.

3. #DroughtMitigationke

This conversation appeared on the top trends as Kenyans with an interest in agriculture discussed ways of sustainable farming that could ensure the drought situation currently facing parts of the country is not replicated.
