Kiambu County Government Blocks NASA from Holding Rally in Thika Sports Stadium

The Kiambu County Government has blocked the National Super Alliance (NASA) from holding a rally in one of the stadiums in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s home county.

The NASA team had on Saturday stated that they would hold a rally at the Thika Sports Stadium as they continue with their vote-hunting in the Jubilee strongholds.

However, the Kiambu Sports Executive Machel Waikenda on Tuesday announced that the stadium had been closed for renovations.

The county executive cautioned the media not to politicize the closure of the stadium, noting that their focus is currently on nurturing sports activities.

"We don't want anyone to politicise the use of the stadium. We are not prioritising any political events and rallies. Our priority will be sports tournament during this period," Waikenda told journalists from his office at Kiambu county headquarters.

The NASA team has already postponed the much-anticipated rally but it remains unclear if they did so as a result of the ban.

The county has promised to make a public announcement when the stadium is fully renovated and ready for non-sporting activities.

The Thika rally was expected to provide a major boost to the NASA team given that it is the main commercial hub in President Kenyatta’s home county.

The Opposition team has already held massive rallies in Jubilee strongholds of Eldoret, Meru, and Tharaka Nithi.
