Kidero to Spend Sh45 Million on Garbage

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero officially announced that the County Government would spend Sh1 Million each day for 45 days on collecting garbage and conducting a clean up exercise in the city.

According to the Governor, the money would be spent on hiring trucks owned by National Youth Service (NYS) and paying personnel.

"We will be spending Sh1 Million every day for the next 45 five days so as to ensure that Nairobi is restored to its glory as the City in the sun and rid the City of garbage," said Kidero.

"We have contracted the NYS to give us 100 trucks for the intervening period and we will be paying for the trucks as well as personnel that will be working with us." he said

The Governor stated that the reason why garbage piled up was because the County Garbage trucks had been taken for servicing over the festive season. He further responded to threats by businessmen to forfeit payment of levies to the county, saying they were justified because his Government had failed to do its part.

"The businessmen are right. If the County doesn’t give them services then they are right to go ahead and stop paying levy to the County Government,” he said.

This comes barely a month after he was attacked over the garbage menace that was reportedly clogging the city. Nairobi residents accused him of involving himself in executive meetings at City Hall instead of looking at matters on the ground.
