Kidero's Flashy Cars Confuse Governors

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero on Wednesday made a flashy arrival at the Annual Devolution Conference in Meru making a few governors mistake his entourage for that of Namibian Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa.

The Nairobi Governor arrived in an entourage of outriders and three escort cars with sirens blaring, prompting five governors who were waiting for chief guest Kuugongelwa's arrival to rush forward only for Kidero to alight.

Upon realising it was Kidero, the assembled governors including Chair Peter Munya let out a dismayed “ahhhhh” in unison while Kidero stepped forward to greet them, saying: “Ni mimi bwana, relax, (It's me gentlemen, relax)”.

The three-day conference at the Meru National Polytechnic, was billed as the biggest show in Meru after the Ameru Festival, and was characterized by a fleet of fuel guzzlers such as Prados and top range Mercedes Benz vehicles.

Majority of MPs and Senators snubbed the meeting calling it a celebration of corruption, with only Senate Speaker Ekwee Ethuro and three nominated Senators, Dr Agnes Zani, Mrs Zipporah Kittony and Godliver Omondi making an appearance.

President Uhuru Kenyatta who was expected to officially open the conference also failed to show up leaving Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri to do the honours.
