Kipchumba Murkomen Calls for Abolishing of Law Requiring Leaders to Possess Academic Qualification

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen has seemingly come to the support of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who is facing allegations of forging his KCSE result slip.

The Deputy Minority leader in the Senate has now called for the elective law that requires politicians to hold an academic qualification to be abolished.

The Senator alluded that the requirements for an elective position were forcing leaders running for office to commit many crimes just to get the chance to exercise their dreams.

Mr Joho had stated that he was proud of the D- he got in KCSE affirming that failure to excel in the examination inspired him to work harder for his success, a fact that Murkomen concurred with.

“I totally agree that academic success is not the only measure of success in life. I know in Kenya a person who scores a D- cannot even qualify to serve in any sector of our armed forces. I have argued before that those who want to be elected should have qualifications determined by voters. My argument is that the voter is wiser and knows what he wants,” the Senator stated.

The current law dictates that for a person to run for Governorship and Presidency in the Country, he should be a degree holders.
