President Uhuru Kenyatta was on Tuesday caught unawares after residents made a rare demand during his tour of Kirinyaga County.
Kenyatta, who is on an expansive Central Kenya tour to launch development projects, appeared shocked after a crowd he was addressing demanded the construction of a mortuary in the area.
The tour saw him launch a number of projects after which he addressed several roadside rallies.
It was during one such rally that the residents started shouting, “mortuary”.
Kenyatta appeared surprised and bent over his limo to hear the demand and upon confirmation that they were demanding for a mortuary, the President told them to first concentrate on the living.
“Kwanza wacha tuhakikishe watu wako uhai alafu sasa tujali ya wale wameenda (First, let’s ensure our people are alive, then we will look at the plight of the deceased),” he stated amid cheers from the crowd.
He added: “Lakini kilio cha mortuary nimekiskia (But I have noted your request for a mortuary)".
During the rally, the President highlighted some of the projects that his government has undertaken in the county.
Kenyatta named construction of over 170 kilometres of road, the introduction of zero charges for candidates sitting for national examinations, and rural electrification.
At the same time, he took a swipe at ODM leader Raila Odinga claiming that the opposition chief had failed to see anything positive in Jubilee’s projects.
